Greenhouse Gas Emissions
The greenhouse gas / global warming issues are going to affect our daily lives and the way we generate electricity to serve our customers.
What is Greenhouse Gas?
Like the glass shell of a greenhouse, greenhouse gases trap the sun’s heat in the earth’s atmosphere. The more GHGs, the thicker the glass. These gases linger for decades, continuing to trap heat. Unlike typical air pollutants, it doesn’t matter where in the world the GHGs are emitted; they all have the same impact on global warming. This is why it is important for all countries to do their part in reducing GHG emissions.
Why is it Important?
Over the last 20 years we have had the hottest summers on record. There are concerns about the long-term effect of this heat. It may cause polar ice caps to melt more rapidly than in the past, affect agriculture and our future food supply. Some proposed remedies may be costly and may not work.
